it was only a few days after i reviewed lasirena69 in her april scene for mofos, ending by saying that i'd like to see more from her, that this popped up on twistys, and i was overjoyed: not just venezuelan lasirena, who had impressed me a lot in that crummy pseudo-college scene, but also canadian riley nixon, who i adore but who rarely gets booked to do the kind of work i enjoy most, and in a scene that even the preview image on the video let on was shot with rare polish and classy art direction.

riley tends to be a polarizing figure: a lot of porn fans vocally loathe her buzzcut, because porn fans are generally about thirty years behind the times in grasping feminine fashions and their little homophobic lizard brains can't handle anything as complex as a beautiful woman who sports one (1) androgynous element. i think her look is a breath of fresh air in an industry that demands long flowing manes as a matter of course (a terrible fate to consign women who mostly live and work in los angeles, las vegas, and miami to), and i wish more women in the industry would join the short-hair club if only to more accurately reflect the non-porn world. (leigh raven, ryan keely, bree daniels: i see you and appreciate you. and when ana foxxx rocks her natural hair, oh lord.)

every turning twistys scene so far has featured one woman with a relatively more "alternative" look seducing a woman with a more traditionally feminine look; whether the alternative look has been tattoos (ivy lebelle, tana lea, joanna angel, jessie lee, honey gold), dreadlocks (kira noir twice), or a uh sensible bob (jada stevens), the point has always been to project an air of authority and even menace (at least within the very tame twistys framework) toward the younger, softer, and usually paler woman. riley nixon's buzzcut may make her look vaguely butch, but she's so fundamentally sweet that she doesn't even try to play aggressive here: when she rescues lasirena from her miserable date with the world's biggest asshole boyfriend, it's through a combination of chicanery and plaintiveness.

i don't recognize the french male performer who talks over, belittles, and aggressively ignores lasirena (as an exclusively girl/girl watcher, i wouldn't), but he put in such solid work making himself loathsome (even correcting riley's pronunciation of merlot!) that it was almost a disappointment to not see him reappear at the end to be unceremoniously dumped, or even just horrified at being cuckolded by the waitstaff. but that may be a little too much detail about my kinks; in all honesty, once riley corners lasirena in the ladies' room it was a relief not to have to hear his and lasirena's duelling thick accents struggle through the surprisingly witty script.

unfortunately the sex was only passable: acrobatic and absurd in the usual twistys manner, with more attention paid to making striking images than to facilitating intense sensations. both women put genuine effort (the more experienced riley perhaps more than lasirena) into each others' pleasure, and there were sporadic moments of intimate passion; but as nice as it looked, the choreography was too busy and the bathroom set too awkward (what is that love seat even) to allow for much real connection. they both looked stunning in any case: although i tend to be on the side of performers keeping some clothes on in semi-public scenarios like this if only for verisimilitude's sake, it was hard to really complain about them stripping down fully.

the camerawork was rather more inventive and mobile than i am used to with twistys, with some shots edging out of glamour-porn convention and into cinematic territory, and although there were a few moments that editing should probably have cut out (it sounded like someone knocked something over off-camera at one point), both sets were strikingly designed and gorgeously lit. my top-of-the-head guess is that françois clousot shot it, but of course i don't know for sure: mindgeek giving credits is as rare as hen's teeth.
