i've been lukewarm on the second season of girlcore after the first season blew me away and got me to sign up for adult time after several years of not paying for porn. as far as i can tell, that's mostly because bree mills didn't direct the whole second season herself as she did with the first, and so there's much less aesethetic coherence. stories inspired by the titles of 80s pop songs is a less compelling and rather more obvious hook than stories based on lesbian pulps set in the 80s. but mills' two entries manage to be aesthetically coherent anyway, even if the rest of the season doesn't really fit with them: "she blinded me with science" was a weird science parody, and "somebody's watching me" is a parody of 80s teen horror movies.
alina lopez plays a teenager with ludicrously teased hair who fakes being sick to get out of going on a business trip with her parents (a well-cast vera king and brock doom), only to realize how creepy it is being alone at night (and watching an unsettling sequence from the first girlcore season on vhs doesn't help). she is startled by an urgent banging on her door by a filthy gia paige, who babbles an incoherent stream about government conspiracies, monstrous aliens, and some kind of transmitter that has been placed in her vagina. the only way to confuse the signal, she says, is to engage in sexual activity. and so they do.
if i were attempting to use this scene purely as wank material, the frequent interruption by a foley boom and camera judder (apparently meant to represent the aliens tracking gia), causing the girls to scream and clutch each other each time, would have put me off; but as an engaging narrative it remained compelling throughout the extended sex, which of course (alina and gia both being rock star performers) turned passionate soon enough, and was fascinating to watch throughout. the only fault i have with any of it is that alina, as the supposedly inexperienced teenager unfamiliar with gia's backstory, took charge of both the sex and the story; but then she's one of the best improvisers in the industry, so of course she pulls more than her weight. that the scene ends with a fisting sequence (to "remove" the "transmitters" in gia's vagina) is the kind of campy narrative rationale for extreme sex acts that i'm always wishing for more of in porn.
if i didn't find this quite as delightful as "she blinded me with science," blame my preference for comedy over horror; the performances are just as great if not better, and the sex (despite the interruptions) was superb. i only wish i had the opportunity to admire gia's amazing body in the kinds of scenes i prefer to watch more frequently.
