i've said a bunch of times already that my favorite thing in porn in 2019 was the adult time/girlsway series we like girls. the absurd simplicity of the concept — ask performers who they want to work with, then book them together — is so obvious that the fact that it's unusual, let alone revelatory, is an indictment of the industry's usual practice of booking two performers that a) metrics say are popular or b) are available. sure, good scenes sometimes come out of that practice; but the hit rate of we like girls is so high that imitators have begun.

twistys' 2019 rebrand as a girl/girl-only site meant that they needed some new formulas to keep the site fresh. turning twistys, the lesbians-seduce-straight-girls series, was their first attempt, to middling results. girl crush, in which two performers who admire one another give brief to-camera interviews and then have sex, is twistys' first gonzo series, debuting in early december 2019. this is the third entry in the series, and the best one yet.

unlike the documentary style of we like girls, neither director holly randall nor her crew ever appear on screen: it's much closer in that way to the original girl crush dvd series, which mason directed for defunct studio club 59 in the early 2010s, and which contained the holy grail of emotionally involving lesbian porn, the legendary gracie glam/brooke lee adams scene. (we like girls came close to it with the alina lopez/kendra spade scene.) but there are no emotions here beyond friendly enjoyment: jenna foxx and brooklyn gray are too professional for that, and are only really acquaintances anyway. so the sex is fun and breezy, gorgeously shot (because holly randall) and delightfully performed.

i'm well familiar with jenna foxx, the cute black canadian who has one of the best social media presences in the industry, but my only previous experience with brooklyn gray was in a very bad scene for mylf last april; i'm relieved to see her actually have intimate and enthusiastic sex rather than whatever that was. possibly because i know jenna as being more interested in women than otherwise, i found her enjoyment of brooklyn particularly endearing, and the post-sex interview, which has been very pro forma in this series, was even delightful here.

girl crush is in no danger of knocking we like girls out of my top spot: it's still very much twistys, which is to say it's oriented toward glamour rather than authenticity. but i like glamour too, and i look forward to more performers with a tangible connection meeting in front of holly's camera in the year to come.
