i don't imagine anybody was surprised that the twistys treat of the year was molly stewart; as mindgeek's sole girl/girl-only contract star, she's more or less been the face of the site all year, and has appeared frequently enough on other mindgeek sites to annoy the dyspeptic regulars. (brazzers fans haaaate that there's a girl/girl brand on the site, which i'm not gonna lie brings me a certain amount of joy.) with her comic-book figure, strong chin, and knack for posing to the camera, molly can be considered something of a throwback to late 90s/early 2000s glamour porn, when image sets were still the hottest commodity in online porn consumption because the bandwidth didn't support video streaming yet, and hardbodied models with impossibly sculpted forms could pose in simulated acts they would never dream of performing in real life.
but if there's one thing (unrelated to moore's law) that has improved over the past twenty years, it's the elbow grease that performers who may not necessarily be sexually attracted to women put into girl/girl performances. i have no idea what molly stewart's genuine sexuality is (she almost always appears in cartoonish, over-the-top scenes with no emotional component, because mindgeek, and seems to prefer it that way), but her work ethic during sex performances is admirable regardless of motivation. her scene partner here, another mindgeek contract star, is similarly a blank to me, but also similarly hardworking: their sex together here was athletically performed and only occasionally risible. (sorry, i am never going to buy reverse tribbing.)
but the sex between them took up only about twenty percent of the running time. in industry terms, this is actually a two-parter made up of a daytime solo scene and a nighttime girl/girl scene, connected by a rather spacey voiceover from molly over royalty-free edm about the excitement and sublimation of being at a music festival. shot at a beautiful location in the joshua tree national park, it's a rare porn scene that feels like someone under forty was involved in its creation, because one was: molly developed the concept herself, which means that for once the script isn't particularly oriented toward the fetishes and knowledge base of the middle-aged and older male audience, but toward the experiences and aspirations of the millennial generation. since two millennials are performing in it, that feels only appropriate.
on social media, holly randall and molly stewart have both been very proud of this scene, and for good reason: the long "tease" sections (industry speak for the clothed, semi-nude, and nude video portraiture set to music that precedes the sex) are among some of the most ravishingly gorgeous glamour filmmaking in porn. i even appreciated the abstractness of concept — of course they weren't going to bring in hundreds of vibing extras to simulate an actual music festival, so molly posing in the desert and around caravans has to stand in for what would have been a much more squalid visual reality; and once desiree joins her it's like another person entering the ego bubble that drugs, music, and bliss have enveloped her in.
in a sense this scene is something of a culmination of twistys' 2019, the year they converted to all-girl/girl and poured money back into being a true glamour site rather than a somewhat starchier clone of more popular mindgeek sites. i don't really have a sense of how well the experiment has been received: the girl/girl fans on the forums i lurk have not seemed to notice the revamp, and twistys' social media is engaged with almost entirely by other industry figures rather than by fans. i don't particularly mind (i kind of like having what feels like a secret favorite girl/girl site that no one else seems to care about), but it does make me worry that it can't last. as long as it does, though, i'll be watching.
