i recently discovered that i still have access to the viv thomas site (i must have signed up for a longer subscription than i thought i did last year, so my post-april cancellation hasn't taken effect yet), so i've been checking out some of their recent output, and have occasionally been impressed. this scene from director bree parker, who only started shooting for the site last summer, was particularly nice.
when i reviewed viv thomas's output last april, the bulk of the scenes were shot by sandra shine, with the team of nik fox and tom veller taking a few more. i'm not sure how the duties are structured now, but nik fox's production company logo appears before bree parker's scenes, and tom veller is one of her cameramen. back in april, i'd admired sandra shine's glistening, light-suffused cinematography more than the cooler, sparingly-illuminated fox/veller productions, but if parker is part of the fox/veller universe, i've come around.
not just the furniture but the entire color palette on this scene reminds me in a strongly nostalgic way of classic 1970s pornography. sure, that's partly because stacy cruz has such a classic girlie-mag figure, but even the specific way their skin glows under parker's lighting rig feels almost like an old magazine. so on a sensuous level it would have been delicious to watch even if they never got naked; but wonder of wonders there's (barely) an actual story here too.
we see them come in from what they declare was a horrible party (they're both czech, so they both naturally speak czech, but their dialogue is very kindly subtitled), take their shoes off, and declare their intention of relaxing in front of the television. wine and popcorn appear, and they even do a good job of pretending to watch tv before popcorn gets everywhere and in the process of cleaning it up stacy "accidentally" brushes against lady dee's crotch. and so to business.
the same basic scenario was used on viv thomas in april, in a scene i rolled my eyes about, but stacy cruz and lady dee are grown-ass czech rock stars rather than newbie ukrainians, so they sell both the setup and the sex and look good doing both. it's still a very limited scene — viv thomas is never going to really break the mold — but the fact that there's dialogue and such gorgeously mannered visuals goes a long way for me. i'll be glad to continue checking them out as long as i still have access.
