i was surprised to note that this showcase scene for twistys treat of the month demi sutra looked a lot more like a regular twistys scene than like some of the more visually lush but narratively thin showcase scenes that have caught my attention over the past year. not that the visuals are bad — holly randall's signature gorgeous lighting makes demi's skin in particular glow magnificently — it's just that the set is rather pedestrian and the setup, with lena paul as a nervous hostess who has hired demi as something of a domme for an hour, is also more formally extensive (if rather more intelligently written) than usual.
both performers are among my favorites currently working in the industry today: sharp, witty, emotionally intelligent and excellent actors — and their looks certainly don't hurt. lena paul playing the more submissive of the two is slightly more cloying than she is when she dommes, but demi playing the domme for the first time that i've seen was a revelation. this is twistys, so it doesn't go beyond leather handcuffs and some light slapping, but demi's personality really shines when she's allowed to assert herself.
because lena and demi are both so good, the narrative continues through the sex — which is something of a specialty for lena as a director — and surprisingly, the heat actually increases as the sex goes on, something extremely rare for such a highly choreographed and orchestrated scene. reading between the lines, i deduce that lena paul and holly randall recorded a podcast the day after shooting this scene, during which lena confesses that she was particularly taken with her partner on this day. even if i hadn't been aware of that admission, the chemistry on the screen would have been clear enough.
