i haven't taken note of the small-scale euro site mixedx before now, even though i've been aware of the brand for a while since they do content-sharing with adult time. but on looking over their recent output i was surprised to notice that almost every production they've released in 2021 has been girl/girl, and includes names i've appreciated seeing in the past year like jia lissa, lika star, and romy indy. the site's owner, principal director and frequent star christina shine favors a muted visual palette but rather intense scenarios (like a european version of missax or pure taboo), which helps the brand stand out in a crowded field: it's a euro studio that relies almost as heavily on story as american ones do, a rarity.
shine, a hungarian performer, has been in the industry since 2014, and earned a reputation for hardcore work before founding mixedx with her husband in 2019. the company's relationship to gamma is a little murky, but it looks like it's currently independent, even though its scenes are republished on adult time a week or so later, and the brand solicits feedback in adult time's comments. sub-brand xflix focuses on story-driven material, while xraw is gonzo; this scene is under the xflix tag, but barely expends sixty seconds on story before jumping into the sex. vanna bardot is a former student of "professor" shine seeking a position as a t.a., shine makes an advance, bardot muses that she could report her for sexual harrassment, shine tells her that she won't... and so to bed.
vanna bardot is the first u.s. based performer to appear on mixedx; shine appears to be filming in los angeles and actively soliciting talent suggestions from fans. maybe the culture clash is responsible for why i enjoyed this scene less than several of its predecessors (the amirah adara/romy indy scene from september was extremely memorable), but i never fully bought either woman's performance either in or out of bed. it improved as the scene went on, perhaps as they figured out each other's rhythms, but the sex never rose above professional.
on the plus side, i really love the visual aspect of this scene, and of all mixedx's original work. the desaturated, almost grainy color, the slightly off-register reds and yellows, give it the feel of a seedy 70s grindhouse film, and the camera work is notable for a lurid tarantinoesque quality, not only because of the lingering shots of vanna bardot's feet. it's rare for a porn scene to play with depth in the way that this one does, which is why despite my reservations about the script and the performances i'm still interested to see what else comes out of mixedx in the future.
