ever since mike quasar took over as the primary filmographer for sweetheart video, i've had less and less interest in its output. nothing against mike (well, a little against mike), but his blank-but-beautiful style for sweetheart, with lots of natural light, very little script to speak of, and a release schedule organized around chasing the market for fetishes i'm bored to tears with, results in skippable scene after skippable scene, especially since younger models still working their way towards a personality make up the bulk of his shooting.

so it was something of a relief when sister brand sweet sinner dropped a single girl/girl scene all year. mike still shot it, but jacky st. james wrote and directed it (and shaun rivera's dramatic lighting made everything look much more interesting than quasar's self-helmed m.o.). as part four of a four-part feature, itself the third in jacky's series about young blonde women seducing older men; but here, she seduces an older woman too. the backstory appears to be some complicated legal drama where anna claire clouds is being represented by lawyer quinton james, so she sleeps with him as leverage to get him to do what she wants; but when he proves recalcitrant, she goes for his wife kenzie, who sees through her manipulation but doesn't care, since its just the opportunity she's been waiting for.

the theme of the sex is "be quiet, because [quinton's character] is right in the next room and mustn't hear us," which makes for a livelier sex sequence than usual, since both women have to stay in character throughout, and they're both competent at sex thriller acting: you know, a half-seductive, half-menacing delivery. i enjoyed seeing anna claire be the pursuer (i always like when the younger woman is seducing the older woman, if only because the reverse is so much more common), and was pleasantly surprised by how credible her acting was in the non-sex scenes. i had more expectations of kenzie, axel braun's recent muse, and she acquitted herself normally.

but more than anything else i loved the shadowy mis-en-scène; sure, it's traditional porn shorthand for "this is dramatic" but it's so rare in girl/girl, which trends bright and happy because girl/girl fans have very specific ideas about what women are, and grown adults with the full range of human emotions and experiences isn't one of them. i'm always hoping to see more story-led girl/girl from jacky st. james; until that happens, i'm glad to have this.
